Hate for the iPad, expectations gone mad

There’s some hating going on about the iPad. People are saying that Apple just released a bigger iPhone and haven’t done anything else. I know because I was one of them yesterday dishing the hate.

But today I have come to realise what is going on and its happened all before.

The iPhone 2G (first iPhone, US Only) was released and had a similar after party. People were hating the 2G, 2MP camera, no native Apps (at the time), no tethering, no replaceable battery and it goes on.

What Apple did after that, the 3G and 3GS, has redefined mobile phones and what we expect them to do. If I see a new phone that comes out without custom native application support it will get a bad wrap. Apple has a habit of setting the industry norms, standards, and expectations when it comes to mobile devices.

Our expectations are rapidly changing and are a major part in our decisions on gadget purchase, from Megapixels to screen resolution. We, the public, set a lot of expectations and a pretty high mark for the iPad before its release. Now we are bummed that the mark was not hit, but patience will be paid off with the spoils of the iPad[S].

So what Apple does, which is what it has done many times before, is release a base product for the new product line and then reiterate on it. It’s no use spending year’s making the perfect device when you’ll end up in the market too late.

So to the people that have not seen the light yet, get over it. Wait a year and you will see something that will redefine Tablet computing.
